Earlier today the guys over at GeekSmack.net "confirmed" that Windows 7 was set to RTM (release to manufacturing) on July 13, which also coincides with Wzor's unconfirmed rumor last month. A few minutes ago sources close to the company, who wish to remain anonymous, have confirmed to Neowin that Windows 7 is indeed set to RTM on July 13.
After a year of furious beta testing and continuous leaks every other week, Microsoft is finally ready to give Windows 7 the green light to hit the market. Currently the Windows 7 team is working on polishing off the RTM build so that no show-stopper bugs are present in Windows 7. The date, July 13, also coincides with the kickoff of the Worldwide Partner Conference that is taking place in New Orleans.
Note: Don't confuse RTM and GA (General Availability), as these are two totally different phases. RTM in a nutshell is typically the final build that we will see when Windows 7 hits GA later this year (Unless, of course, there's a show-stopper bug found), but is released to manufacturers so they can work out any bugs the software may encounter with hardware devices. General availability is scheduled to launch on October 22, which will give the tech savvy world time to save up money.
So with that said TechNet, MSDN, and a few other partner connections should also be getting the RTM build on or shortly after July 13. So let the countdown begin!
Windows 7 has resemblance to its predecessor, Windows Vista, in many respects. Speaking of its security, the UAC is one of useful features that has mixed up reactions from Windows users when it was first introduced in Windows Vista. You can turn this off if you work on administrator account in Windows 7 but the administrator account is no where to be seen because it is not activated by default. This post will show you how to activate the account.
Please note before proceeding with the following steps, you don't have actually to activate this account at all unless you need the administrator account for troubleshooting your Windows 7.
Basically there are 2 ways in order to activate the account:
a) Command Prompt b) Local Security Policy
1. Command PromptFirst you need to run Command Prompt as an administrator. You can do that by right clicking on the command prompt in the program list and choose "Run as administrator".
After that you only need to enter the simple command below to activate it.
net user administrator /active:yes
You can also specify your password for this particular account by using the following command
Net user administratorpassword
where you can replace "password" with your own password. You can see the account immediately after you logoff your Windows 7. In order to deactivate it, you can use the command below
net user administrator /active:no
This will effectively turn off the administrator account.
2. Local Security Policy
Another way of activating the administrator account in Windows 7 is via Local Security Policy. Type secpol.msc in the search bar and hit enter. After the Local Security Policy pops up, navigate to Local Policies-> Security Options where you can see an entry that reads Accounts: Administrator account. Double click the entry to enable it.
